CORE MMA Fighter Info

Looking to compete, or got a fight coming up? Here's some of the things you need to know.

Fight Approval

All athletes looking to compete in striking-based combat sports need to get approval from the CORE MMA War Council. The Council is responsible for looking at the relative skillsets, experience, fitness, weight and any other factors which should be considered when evaluating the merits of the matchup.

Competition pre-approval can be sought via your striking class coach, or email to info@coremma.co.nz

Fight Preparation

CORE MMA athletes need to be logging each of their training sessions via the CORE MMA Members App, including both classes, personal training sessions and any additional fitness work they are doing. Under the analytics view, benchmarking should be enabled for the appropriate level of competition (Amateur or Professional) and fighters should consult this workload and breakdown with their coaches throughout the camp.

NZ Combat sports tournaments usually require both a general medical and blood test, as well as the competitor making a specific weight bracket. Please refer to the weight chart here for guidance regarding the weight cutting process.

Fighter Admin & Medicals

Fighters are required to have Blood test results, declaring them free from HIV (p24 antigen and HIV 1+2 antibodies); Hep B (HBsAg) & C. These results must usually be dated no earlier than 6-12 months prior to the date of the fight and a copy of the original serology results needs to be ready at least 1 week before the official weighin.

Fighters are required to pass a medical inspection by the event medics. Only fighters which are declared fit and able to fight will be elligible to compete.

Fight Day Equipment

Fighters are required to bring their own mouthguard and cup/box (males). These are compulsory safety items. Fighters must have trim nails and all piercings removed or adequately covered. Fighters must bring appropriate fightwear attire, including suitable MMA shorts and rashguard (optional).

Depending on the promotion, fighters may also be required to supply their own shin gear for the event.
